CITATION REVIEW FOR LEGAL PROFESSIONALS
Verify citations and quotations, review formatting, apply supported corrections with Track Changes, and keep an audit-ready Scorecard without leaving Word.
Citation Scorecard uses deterministic checks and conservative refusal rather than generative AI to decide whether a citation, quotation, or proposed correction passes its rules.

TWO WAYS TO USE CITATION SCORECARD
FOR LEGAL-TECH PLATFORMS
Plug deterministic verification into your product.
Embed Citation Scorecard as a verification layer inside your existing legal-tech workflow. Your product stays the product. Citation Scorecard checks objectively verifiable citation and quotation facts behind the scenes or as a visible QA feature.
Completely deterministic
Embedded verification plug-in
Use your existing legal-data sources
Customer-hosted deployment available

FOR LAW FIRMS & LEGAL TEAMS

INTENDED LAWYER-FACING WORKFLOW
The intended direct workflow is designed to sit alongside legal drafting: not another drafting tool, research platform, or AI assistant. The current hosted interface remains available for demonstrations and evaluations.
01
Check the document
Citation Scorecard identifies supported citations and quotations in the submitted content.
02
Compare against configured sources
Objectively verifiable details are checked against approved legal information sources.
03
Review structured findings
The platform receives clear findings showing what was confirmed, what differs, and what requires attention.
VERIFICATION TO CORRECTION
Find the problem. Apply the supported fix.
Citation Scorecard identifies supported citation defects and, where the exact correction can be proved safely, lets the lawyer apply the displayed change directly in Word. Successful text corrections use Word’s native Track Changes so the lawyer remains in control.
Exact, deterministic suggested corrections
Native Word Track Changes
Safe refusal when a correction cannot be proved
FORMATTING REVIEW
Review citation formatting in the same workflow.
Citation Scorecard separately reviews supported citation-formatting issues and shows the exact change available, including case-name, signal, and citation emphasis corrections. Eligible fixes can be applied individually or together where Word supports the required safety checks.
Separate Formatting review
Clear explanation for every finding
Apply Change or Apply All for eligible corrections
THE PROBLEM
Fabricated authorities, incorrect citation details, and inaccurate quotations have resulted in monetary sanctions, fee awards, struck filings, disciplinary consequences, and reputational harm in reported cases. Consequences are determined case by case.
01
Court sanctions and fee awards for unverified or fabricated authority
02
Struck filings and lost motions tied to incorrect citation details
03
Disciplinary referrals for inaccurate quotations presented as verbatim
04
Reputational damage to platforms whose users relied on defective output
DETERMINISTIC VERIFICATION
Citation Scorecard uses deterministic rules and authoritative source data for its verification decisions. No LLM decides whether a citation or quotation passes.
What the verification checks
Supported citation identity
Supported quotation fidelity
Configured authority and source details
Structured findings for lawyer review
WHAT CITATION SCORECARD VERIFIES
Coverage is limited to supported sources and document locations configured by your platform.
Citation and authority details
Checks supported citation information and authority identity against configured legal sources.
Quotation fidelity
Compares quoted language with retrieved source text when supported.
Structured findings
Returns clear diagnostic results identifying what was located, what differs, and what requires review.
Platform integration
Designed to operate within legal-technology products and workflows.
Available coverage depends on the configured sources, document format, authority type, and verification scope.

Citation Scorecard can surface findings inside an existing document workflow or operate as a silent back-end quality gate before work product is shared, exported, or filed.

ILLUSTRATIVE INTEGRATION CONCEPT

DETERMINISTIC VERIFICATION PLUG-IN
Plug deterministic citation and quotation verification into the products lawyers already use. Your product stays the product. Citation Scorecard becomes the verification layer, connecting to your platform’s authorized legal-data sources without replacing that infrastructure.
Visible integration
Surface structured findings within the platform’s user experience.
Quality-assurance workflow
Use verification as a review step before content is delivered.
Approved legal sources
Designed to work with legal information sources authorized for the platform.
Flexible implementation
Integration and deployment are scoped to the platform’s requirements.
SCOPE BOUNDARIES
Citation Scorecard checks objectively verifiable details. It does not determine:
Good-law status of a cited authority
Whether a cited authority supports the proposition asserted
The soundness of legal reasoning or argument
Paraphrase accuracy where no verbatim quotation is claimed
Whether an accurate quotation is misleading in its surrounding context
A REAL-WORLD FAILURE THAT WAS DETECTABLE BEFORE FILING
In Mata v. Avianca, lawyers submitted nonexistent judicial opinions and quotations attributed to authorities that could not be verified. Citation Scorecard is designed to identify those objectively testable failures while counsel still has time to investigate and correct the document.
These findings would not decide the legal argument or discharge counsel’s professional obligations. They would have placed the documented citation and quotation failures directly in front of the lawyer before filing.

Quotations linked to authorities that could not be established were reported as Unable to Verify, directing counsel to review the underlying source rather than treating the language as confirmed.
